Avoca Beach is a picturesque coastal town with pristine beaches and great surf. The stunning 1km golden sand beach with gentle waves is ideal for swimming and surfing. History
The indigenous Darkinjung and Awabakal peoples originally inhabited the pristine Avoca area before Irish army officer John Moore claimed 640 acres along the coast in 1830. After delays surveying the rugged landscape, Moore finally received the official deed in 1839, built a homestead by the sparkling Bulbararing Lake, and turned the untamed land into vineyards and orchards. In 1857, Moore left for the Victorian gold rush, and the Avoca lands were leased for timber harvesting. Trams transported the logs along what is now Tramway Road. The timber industry faded by the early 1900s as Avoca transitioned into a seaside haven renowned for its picture-perfect beaches cradled by rolling green hills.
